FAQ
Testing adjusting and Balancing, referred to as TAB, is the process of adjusting the flow regulating devices that controls the flowrate. That process applies to the Air side and the Chilled Water Side of an air conditioning system.
Air balancing means adjusting the volume control dampers to divert the flow and redistribute the air delivery to different diffusers.
Chilled Water Balancing means adjusting the double regulating valves or the pressure independent control valves to redistribute the chilled water flow to the different air conditioning units.
During the design of a ducted air conditioning system, each grille and diffuser is assigned a specific air flowrate that adds up to the total deliverable by the AC Unit. If one of the diffusers has more flow, the other gets less flow which accordingly causes issues with temperature and humidity in the rooms served by both diffusers.
Testing and balancing is required for any new Centralized Air Conditioning System installation to distribute the air at the specified design values which ensures a uniform temperature and humidity profile in the building.
For buildings in operation, below illustration shows issues that indicate the system requirement for Air Balancing to be performed.
